Malcolm Stent

Malc first got the bug for entertainment at the age of 7 years when he played the Mayor in a school play 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin'. The play started off quite well until Malc found that he could make the audience laugh by departing from the script and 'embroidering' his own lines. This got him into trouble with his teacher but made a big hit with the moms and dads who'd only come along 'out of duty'.

And that just about set the style for his future career. He has an inbuilt aversion to anything rehearsed or contrived, so much so that when he works on television no one's sure what's going to happen. This makes him a headache for T.V. producers but sheer delight for the viewer.  (See T.V. Credits).

The same goes for radio, in more than 3,000 of his own shows for B.B.C. Radio he never once used a script or running order. 'I was given one, but I never used one'. But that's 'Our Malc' as he is known to just about everybody in the Midlands who has come to think of him as 'Jack the Lad from Brum'.   He firmly believes that 'Roots' are essential, but don't be misled, his humour may have begun in 'Back-street Birmingham' but is understood and relevant to every city, town or hamlet because it stems from real people and events that take place in everyday life.  Malc's worms eye view of life has taken him to town halls, village halls, schools, arts centres, forces bases, festivals, colleges, universities and major theatres. His work abroad has taken him to Belgium, France, Germany and Holland, he was even flown to Dubai to entertain at their May Ball. In fact wherever people gather for a good laugh, you'll find this warm, likeable bloke with 'The funny accent'.

An Evening with Malcolm Stent

Malcolm's speciality, and first love, is his two hour show.  Backed by his superb musicians 'The Poor Boys', he performs an evening of hilarious comedy and songs ranging from 'Sixties favourites through Rock and Roll, Blues and Country meets Folk'.   The songs are all designed for audience participation and he insists that the audience join in.  The show works equally well in concert or cabaret setting  with supper between the two halves.  Lions International at Balsall Common, Warwickshire have booked 'An Evening with Malcolm Stent for the past twenty years.  Such is the demand for tickets that they sell out the Friday and Saturday evening shows months in advance.  It is their major annual fund raising event.
