The New Jubilee Jazz Band was formed by trombonist Harry Townsend and reed player Dave Kennedy in, as far as anyone can remember, 1972 although the actual date may have been earlier. Harry led the band, based generally in mid to West Cornwall until his untimely death in 1995. He was replaced by John Lancaster playing reeds, completing a two reeds and trumpet front line, changing the band's sound somewhat.
Led now by Dave Kennedy, the band's repertoire leans towards small band swing, playing tunes by Ellington, Basie, Waller etc. The trumpet player for the past fifteen years or so has been Brian Gray, ad the rhythm section comprises Micky Bateman on guitar, Dave Freeman on bass and, the newest member, Barry Nicholls on drums.
There are a number of smaller groups which are put together to suit different occasions .. eg two reeds, guitar and bass ; trumpet, one reed, guitar and bass; and a new formation :- two reeds, two guitars and bass (by the addition of guitarist Pete Stokes).
