Marilyn Middleton

Marilyn Middleton was born in Chicago, where she began singing professionally at the age of fifteen.  Her first work was in folk music but she soon broadened her range to include Rock & Roll and then Jazz & Blues.
Over the next twenty years her music took her right across the USA and then to Europe. Her first UK album 'NOBODY KNOWS YOU' in 1988 won the MUSIC RETAILERS      ASSOCIATION AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE.

Fourteen years and eleven albums later, Marilyn's path has criss-crossed Europe, with appearances in concert halls,      theatres, festivals and clubs in Germany, Denmark, Holland,     Norway, Switzerland, France, Eire as well as the U.K.


Marilyn's starring role in the record breaking theatre show 'A NEW ORLEANS MARDI GRAS' and her successful one woman shows 'THOSE WOMEN OF THE VAUDEVILLE BLUES' and 'JAZZ ME BLUES' have won massive plaudits from the press, audiences and music promoters alike.

In 1994, BBC Radio 2 asked her to record a series of programmes 'VAUDEVILLE, RED HOT AND BLUE' with her Jazz band, The Chicago Hoods.  The series was acclaimed by critics ('Breathtaking' - The Observer'). And the response  of radio listeners was so enthusiastic that a second series, and then a third, were  commissioned for broadcast in 1996 and  1997.  Following on from the success of the radio series, Marilyn  toured the UK with 'The Chicago Hoods' in two original theatre shows - 'THE ALL-AMERICAN MUSIC SHOW' and 'RED HOT AND BLUE' directed by her husband, Steve Mellor.

Marilyn's  folk music repertoire is as varied as the rest of her career with a natural emphasis on songs of North American origin in addition to material written  specially for her by notable British and European composers.  She combines a magnetic stage presence and a powerful but sensitive voice with a warmth and feeling seldom equalled.
